Eau Galle, WI
The town of Eau Galle, WI, is located in Dunn County, about six miles northwest of Durand at the southern end of Lake Eau Galle. The town itself covers a large land area of more than 47 square miles, which includes the unincorporated community of Eau Galle and the ghost town of Welch Point. The population is small— fewer than 800 people.
One theory on the origin of the name has been that Eau Galle means “bitter water.” However, it’s more generally accepted that the town took a modified version of the Eau Galle River’s French name, Au Galet, translating to “with the gravel bank.” Eau Galle today stands as a peaceful community surrounded by water and farmland. Notable stops include the Eau Galle Civic Center and St. Henry’s Church, while Pine View Park across the lake is easily accessible.
