Durand, WI

The City of Durand is located along the Chippewa River in northwestern Wisconsin, situated within the town of the same name. As the seat of Pepin County, the city covers 1.75 square miles of land, home to a population of roughly 1,900 people under the motto, “On the Banks of the Chippewa.” The Town of Durand, meanwhile, is home to about 700 residents across a larger land area of 18.5 square miles.

The Durand area was first settled in 1856 when young Miles Durand Prindle traveled up the river and took government land at the city’s present location. Durand also prides itself as a thriving community with a strong base of industrial and commercial businesses.
